9 Muddy Bums gathered at Slymefoot Bridge Alwinton in the drizzle, Ian S, Arthur, Ian A, Willie, Julie, Graham & Michelle met up with Tom and Singlespeed Steve.
After a brief chat the route was altered to accommodate the weather, as we set off the rain ceased and we had almost perfect conditions for the non stop climbing past Row Hope and the Trows before eventually turning left descending past Hazely Law up to the Border Ridge. Climbing the slabs on the Pennine Way kept our minds focused as there wasn’t much room for error without landing in one of the bottomless bogs.
Lunch was taken at Russell’s Cairn on Windy Gyle, the weather was on the turn once again, time to get off the ridge. A very rapid descent down to Plea Knowe saw everyone huddling in a hollow waiting for Ian S to put a new tube into his tubeless tyre that kept coming of the rim whilst descending, the final leg back to the cars over Swineside Law and Hindside Knowe saw Michelle take a tumble on the very steep wet and grassy descent, fortunately no damage, but the gathering riders around Michelle left no room for the speeding Stanners who unselfishly made himself fall off rather than hitting the group, much to everyone’s amusement (and thanks).
A quick change in the car park and off to Barrowburn for Soup, Burgers, Bacon rolls, Cakes Tea and Coffee (and that was just Julie’s order !).
Great Company.
Cheers all,
Ian A
PS What's the picture of Willie in a pipe about then ????
