Coast & Consett Ride

8 riders left from Forest Hall for a hastily rearranged ride, which was an attempt to meet Mark and his merry band of C2C'ers somewhere along the final leg of their route. Ian A, Ian B, Dave, Terry, Arthur, Derek, Julie and Willie left an hour earlier than usual at 9.00am a ninth rider Isobel who is new to our area was met at South Gosforth.

Jesmond Dene was the chosen route to the Tyne passing through Ouseburn before heading west up the Tyne via the quayside market. Once across the Scotswood Bridge the Derwent walk led us gently uphill to Consett only to find our date had arrived and moved on twenty minutes earlier. (well if you will ride so slowley !)

Consett was twenty six miles into our journey and as far west as we were travelling today so we turned East and thankfully headed downhill (mostly) to a well earned lunch stop at a pub in Leadgate (The Jolly Drover) and then along the C2C and onto the sea front at Sunderland.

Fish and chips at Seaburn before the last leg along the beautiful coastline towards South Shields and the ferry crossing over the Tyne. Terry and Dave headed for home via North Shields and Derek sped north to Cramlington.

Rising Sun country park entrance at the top of Station road saw Isobel head for home along the old coast road whilst the five remaining riders crossed the railway line and back to Forest Hall.

9 hours out and at least 69 miles for most quite a few more for those who cycled to the meeting point.

Great Day - Excellent weather and superb company - Thanks to you all.
