The Kipper Run a.k.a. ..The Sugar Rush
17th Jan 2010 saw eleven gather for the first proper ride of the year, by the seaside for a sunny but cool start, in fact it felt positively balmy after the severe winter temps we've had thus far. So Arthur, Tomb, Terry, Dave, Izzy, ian A, Ian S, Nico, Willie and Julie set of for Craster from Dbay just after 10. The usual suspects were quickly out the trap and the rest followed not far behind and just let then get on with it.
The first fall of the day was marked up by Izzy on the wet wood of Amble Pier, nothing too serious, just a whack on the butt, more than likely painfull next day, however the chiropracter was booked already she said !! The cruise along the keyside through the Sunday market was happily brief , not too much of a culture shock and no one was tempted by the trays of meat on offer allthough the Dinky Doughnuts did smell good. Onwards up to the more refined Warkworth and the pace was still fast, so the castle zoomed by and we were off along the cliffs and dunes to Low Buston. Normaly on warmer days and when the tide is right we ford the Aln at Alnmouth but not today ... brrrrr.
The rush for the Kippers went on and Boulmer (and it's coffee) sped by, and so into the best part of the day (quickly) ... towards Sugar Sands, and there we finally stopped for lunch in the sun. 3 hrs gone ... phew ! legs were tired now, so Kippers were sacrificed and
Sugar was substituted. Suitably refreshed, after bait we turned around and went all the way back, .... a different view but just as quick.
A great ride / rush to get the legs going again after the ice and snow. Shame we didn't pick up the Kippers, allthough the Sugar was a good substitute, but the 40 miles there and back is more of a summer ride, much of it being off road. Cheers for the good turnout and good to see folks, who were on good form again ~ GavMossy
