Warkworth Ride

Sunday May, 31st 2009 - Well what weather where blessed with at the moment.

Willie,Julie,Gavin,Arthur,Ian A,Terry and Dave (back from his walking across the UK from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay), met at the Riverside car park in Warkworth. Rain coats were disgarded from the camalbacks and replaced with sun tan lotion and some potion that Julie was rubbing on her helmet. We were on the bikes and away shortly after 10-00am.

The ford crossing at coquet moor was as low as i have seen it for as long as I can remember. This is just as well cos the foot bridge was washed away last september in the floods. Along the bridle the hobo has locked up his winter residence and moved on for the summer. Crossing the A1 dodging all the sunday drivers saw us up to the village of Newton on the Moor. The next bridle was as dry and hard as we have ever ridden it , snacks were taken just before the section of forest through to the wigwam house and then on and up and out of the wood. The ford crossing was cleared by everyone , lunch was taken at Edlingham castle this turned out to be more leisurely than usual as everyone was happy just soaking up the rays .

After lunch we set away along our designated route with one or two hinden treasures , one being an adult size play house complete with veranda in the woods - who knows who`s playing around in the woods today!!!!! Once all the height was gained the downhill started back to the coast . On this section we saw poor Ian take a double whammy front and rear snake bites in one hit . A little further on saw Ian fall foul to a little advice , its rideable on the right at full speed to everyone elses amusement Ian made a complete sows ear of it. Front wheel took a good hold in the soft ground and Ian left his bike himself at speed with arms and legs flapping landing was still in the soft.

Refreshments for some were taken on board in Alnwick. Gavin was the next to suffer a puncture just before the return crossing of the A1. The nettles ,goarse and brambles did their best to hide the start of the old railway line on the easten side of the A1. Once we had got them beaten back we made good going and ended up in Alnmouth for a refreshing cuppa and some much needed shade from the heat of the sun.

This next bridle can only be taken at low tide , cos it crosses the estuary of Alnmouth. A little time was taken to fill the eye sockets at Killakrankie caravan site , unknown to Julie what the delay was about. As we got closer to civilisation there was even more eye socket filling moments , hey what a difference a little sun makes does it give us rose tinted glasses or does it just bring them out ( the flowers, nettles and goarse is what I`am on about). Back to the vehicles for 5-00pm and a good 30 miles under our belts .

Cheers for an amusing and entertaing day once again. Willie
