For some it was a hard choice, Christmas shopping at the Metro Center or enjoying the wilds of Northumberland on a clear snowy day.
Those who made the right choice were Willie, Julie, Gavin, Tom and Arthur.
No time for hanging around on the frosty morning took the famous five out of Hedgeley service station on tarmac for a bit of a warm up then the first encounter with the..............
.....ice!!! As we dropped down to our ford / bridge option. Tom the master demonstrated how to cross an axle deep river and keep dry feet while the rest of the wimps took to the footbridge.
Some interesting climbing through Hannas wood led to the excellent cross country run to Blawearie and the first food stop of the day. Nice to sit in the sun admiring the snow covered hills but this did not last long as “boot camp Julie” soon had us up and out again.
By now most were mastering the art of flying over snow and ice, probably too frightened to brake, but the odd fall with bike wrapped around the legs only added to the fun.
Soon we were back at the bridge/ford option with Willie and Tom showing how it is done with the ones with more sense again wimping over the bridge.
All Back at Hedegely service station for about 2.45.No injuries or mechanicals’. The distance or speed did not really matter it was again another good day out on the hill.
Cheers Willie.
